What is gum disease?
Gum disease
is very common and affects much of the population.  Although a variety of diagnoses can be categorised under ‘gum disease’ the most common types are Gingivitis (Bleeding Gums with no ‘gum’ loss) and Periodontitis (Bleeding Gums with ‘gum’ loss).

Have I got gum disease?
Your dentist is the only person who can tell. However if you have any of the following then you may have gum disease:

  • Bleeding Gums (also known as Gingivitis)
  • Tooth Mobility / Wobbly Teeth
  • Halitosis (Bad Breath)
  • Swollen or sore gums
  • Sensitive Teeth

Can it be treated?
Of course however, as with all disease, the earlier it is detected the better the prognosis.  Depending on the type of gum disease your dentist will be able to provide the best solution. Treatment can involve anything from simple re-contouring of existing fillings/crowns or to light/extensive scalings to remove calculus (tartar) trapped above and below the gum line.

The diagrams on this page and videos located here explain gum disease in more detail, however, as said above – the best way forward is to see your dentist as soon as possible so give us a call now on 0141 445 1829 or BOOK ONLINE.
